Debut Solo Exhibition by Okokume in China, Under the Curatorial Vision of Sonia Borrell
15 March – 30 June 2026
Spanish artist, Okokume, is presented in China in an expansive presentation curated by Sonia Borrell (Art Belina). Her distinct practice explores imagination and emotion, subconscious worlds and individuality—inviting audiences into a universe where tenderness and intensity coexist, and where inner landscapes become visual language.
On the first floor, visitors enter the poetic world of Okokume. Stepping into her exhibition feels like crossing into a pastel dreamscape—soft in tone, immersive in atmosphere, and quietly visionary. Her iconic character, Cosmic Girl, moves through space as a symbol of healing and renewal, restoring planets in need and reawakening dormant worlds. Okokume presents Cosmic Garden, an immersive installation that opens a space where fantasy, hope, and gentle transformation converge.
A central curatorial intention was to achieve a museum-quality presentation while introducing a concise selection of limited-edition prints and bronze sculptures—each chosen to add intimacy and rarity to the overall experience.
The architecture of Shenzhen Bay MixC is integral to the project. Four large-format digital screens extend the exhibition’s presence beyond the gallery floors and into the urban fabric of Shenzhen Bay—amplifying visibility and allowing the works to enter the rhythm of the city. As one of Shenzhen’s most refined and dynamic destinations, Shenzhen Bay naturally brings together luxury, innovation, culture, and international exchange. The exhibition reflects this spirit, ensuring the artworks resonate within an environment defined by distinction, beauty, and cultural sophistication.
The project also underscores the role of collaboration in shaping new cultural platforms in China. Presented in partnership with China Resources Group (CRG), partners of Art Belina, the exhibition supports an ecosystem in which contemporary art can meet new audiences in one of Shenzhen’s most prominent locations.
Extending beyond the two exhibition floors, the presentation offers a broader curatorial vision rooted in emotion, excellence, and timeless elegance. The museum shop introduces works by 18 additional artists, offering visitors a wider perspective on the program and the artistic ecosystem surrounding the exhibition.
Okokume will be joining Art Basel this year, making this presentation especially timely within the international contemporary art landscape.
At Shenzhen Bay MixC, art will find you.

b. 1985, Mataró, Barcelona, Spain
Laura Mas Hernandez (b.1985; Mataró, Spain), known as Okokume, constructs fictive worlds to seek a universally resonant psyche for the contemporary audience. In her paintings, she explores alternatives to saturated presentations of womanhood, trauma, anxiety and the environmental crises in the media. Adopting a distinct graphic style, Okokume’s visual language reflects her positioning and identity, which is fostered by the internet, media, pop culture and an increasingly tight-knit international network.
